DTF Transfers

DTF Transfer Application Instructions

Follow these step-by-step instructions to apply DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers to garments using a heat press for consistent, professional results.

Materials You’ll Need

Quick checklist before you press
  1. DTF Transfer: Your printed design on DTF film.
  2. Heat Press Machine: You’ll need access to a heat press machine (see recommended settings below).
  3. Garment or Textile: The item you’re applying the transfer to.
  4. Textured Teflon / Matte Teflon Sheet: Used for the 2nd press to help the transfer really adhere to the garment.

Recommended baseline: 285°F–300°F • 12 seconds • HIGH/HEAVY/FIRM pressure (about 60 PSI if your press shows PSI)

Step-by-Step Procedure

Press, peel, and lock it in
1) Prepare your garment: Ensure it’s clean, flat, and smooth. Pre-press for 7–12 seconds to remove moisture/wrinkles.
2) Position the transfer: Place the film on the garment with the printed side facing down.
3) Protect the transfer: Cover with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet as a barrier.
4) Press: Apply even pressure for 12 seconds. Then lift the press and remove the cover sheet.
5) Peel carefully: Our transfers can be peeled hot or cold.
  • Hot peel: peel immediately.
  • Cold peel: cool 20–30 seconds, then peel.
6) 2nd / Final press (required): Press an additional 12 seconds with a Textured Teflon / Matte Teflon Sheet over the design to help it adhere.
7) Cool down: Let the garment cool completely before folding or wearing.

Pro tip: If you see any lifting, lay the film back down and repress for 10–15 seconds, let cool, then peel again.

Heat Press Settings + Tips

Dial in temp, time, and pressure

You must use a heat press. Cricut Easy Press, HTVRONT, and regular home irons are not recommended for DTF transfer application.

Setting Recommendation
Temperature 285°F–300°F (verify with a heat gun if possible)
Time 12 seconds (then a required 2nd press for 12 seconds)
Pressure High / Heavy / Firm (about 60 PSI if shown)
Peel Hot peel or cold peel (cool 20–30 seconds if cold peeling)

These settings are recommendations only and depend on your heat press. All heat presses are not created equal, so you may need to adjust time/temp. The hotter these are pressed, the more plastic they will feel.

If hot peel isn’t working: allow the transfer to cool, peel, and if you see any lifting, lay the film back down, repress for 10–15 seconds, cool, and peel again. If transfers aren’t hot peeling, your heat press likely isn’t set correctly.

Color note: Due to monitor/browser variations, colors may look different on different screens. We do our best to repeat settings batch to batch, but minor variance may occur.
